Lavandova Hora lavender farm, Perechyn

Perechyn, Zakarpattia region, Ukraine

Lavandova Hora (“Lavender Hill”) is a family farm on the edge of Perechyn that in just a few years has turned an ordinary hill above the town into one of the most photogenic spots in Zakarpattia. Every summer the slope is covered in purple rows of lavender, Damask roses and jasmine bloom alongside, and the scent reaches you before you even park. It is a working farm, a craft shop and a place people come to simply sit among the flowers and slow down.

A family story told in lavender

The farm was founded in 2017 by the Kachur family of Perechyn, Yurii and Myroslava. They started with 400 lavender bushes, planted almost as an experiment; today, according to the farm, there are about 10 ha of English lavender, 2 ha of Damask rose, half a hectare of jasmine and 2 ha of hazelnuts — hundreds of thousands of plants. The soil is worked by hand and machine without chemicals, and after the bloom the flowers are dried and distilled into essential oil and hydrosols. Suspilne Uzhhorod and local media have featured the farm, calling it Perechyn's tourist magnet, and the owners keep developing the grounds.

Why go: a walk, a tasting, a workshop

The best time to visit is the peak of the bloom, roughly mid-June to late July. For a simple walk no booking is needed: buy an entry ticket and wander the lavender, rose and jasmine plots, take photos anywhere on the grounds, use the photo props and rest in the gazebos. On weekend evenings there is sometimes live music — check in advance.

  • Flower tasting — lavender, rose and jasmine jams with farm butter, lavender cheese, fruit and lavender lemonade, served French-style with a short story of how the farm began. For groups of 10 or more, by advance booking and payment at least a day ahead; smaller groups at an individual rate.
  • Workshops — lavender sachets and posies, painting tote bags, pictures with lavender, bead jewellery, painting in the field. Book a few days ahead.
  • Photo sessions with a photographer among the flowers, also by appointment.

What to taste and buy

The farm shop sells lavender essential oil, hydrosols, natural cosmetics (including creams and skincare), handmade soap, sachets and candles, lavender textiles, teas, syrups and “nectars” of lavender, rose and jasmine, lavender honey, lavender, rose and rosehip jams, and lavender cheese. In autumn and spring you can order perennial lavender seedlings (minimum 25), and in August–September fresh and dried rosehips. Most products are also sold through the online shop with delivery, so a lavender gift is available even in winter. Try what you won't find in an ordinary shop — Damask rose jam and lavender sweets.

Getting there

Perechyn lies about 20 km north-east of Uzhhorod, on the road up the Uzh valley towards Velykyi Bereznyi. Buses and minibuses run from Uzhhorod, as do local trains on the Uzhhorod – Velykyi Bereznyi line. The farm is on Ivana Babycha Street, on the hill above the town: not far from the centre of Perechyn, but the road climbs, so a car or taxi is easiest. Bring comfortable shoes and a hat: there is little shade in the fields, and the softest light for photos comes in the evening.
