Historical and Ethnographic Museum "Berehynia", Burshtyn

It may seem strange, but the impetus for the creation of the museum was the story "The Kaydashik Family" by Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky. During my many years of teaching, I had to explain to my students what the reel was that Kaidashykha and her daughter-in-law Motria fought over. One day in 1987, during a lesson, I came up with the idea to find that mysterious reel somewhere and to set up a corner of old household items in the Ukrainian literature classroom.

But the first exhibit was not a reel, but an old great-grandmother's shirt. As the years passed, more and more things were collected. And the college created the Berehynia Museum of Ethnography and Life.

Eventually, the Scientific and Methodological Center for the Culture of Prykarpattia became interested in the museum. In early 2000, we were registered as the State Historical and Ethnographic Museum "Berehynia". I was very happy because I believed that the state would really take care of priceless exhibits. However, we were given two minimum wages. That was all. To this day, not a single penny has been allocated for the museum's development.

The new premises for the museum were provided by the college. It is an assembly hall in the dormitory and two rooms. It took almost a year to create the new museum. On December 4, 2001, a new museum exposition consisting of ethnographic and archaeological exhibits was opened on the occasion of the Introduction.

The collection of embroideries includes many Opillya patterns, unique items, such as a towel with a Tatar pattern from Rohatyn, Bessarabian towels exchanged in our region for a handful of grain or a crust of bread in 1947, and a napkin embroidered in the prison cell of a Soviet-era political prisoner.

The museum is decorated with a mini-exposition: the Ukrainian diaspora of the first quarter of the 20th century, a church corner, a collection of Easter eggs, grandmother's chests full of all kinds of goodies, etc. The museum has an opil room and a storeroom. These rooms are filled with tools, household items, furniture, and embroideries used by our ancestors.

Opening hours: from 09:00 to 18:00. Day off: Saturday.

Below you will see all the sights of Burshtyn, and we also suggest you go to the pages of the Prometheus Palace of Culture, famous for its mosaic, and the famous Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of 1828.
