Historical and Ethnographic Museum "Beregynya", Burshtyn

It may seem strange, but the impetus for creating the museum was the story by I. Nechuy-Levytsky "Kaidash's Family". Throughout many years of teaching, I had to explain to students what a motovilo was, for which Kaidashikha fought with her daughter-in-law Motrya. And somehow, during a lesson in 1987, the thought came to me to find that mysterious motovilo and not only that, but to equip a corner of ancient household items in the Ukrainian literature classroom.

But the first exhibit was not a motovilo, but an ancient shirt from my great-grandmother. Years passed, and more and more items were collected. An ethnography and household museum "Beregynya" was created at the technical school.

Over time, the Scientific and Methodological Center of Culture of Prykarpattia became interested in the museum. In early 2000, we were registered as the State Historical and Ethnographic Museum "Beregynya". I was very happy because I believed that the state really cared for the priceless exhibits. However, we were given only two minimum salaries. And that was it. To this day, not a penny has been allocated for the establishment of the museum.

The technical school provided us with a new space for the museum. This is an assembly hall in the dormitory and two small rooms. We spent almost a year creating the new museum. On December 4, 2001, on the Feast of the Entry, a new exhibition of the museum was opened, consisting of ethnographic and archaeological exhibits.

Among the collection of embroidered shirts, there are many Opilsk patterns, and there are unique items, for example, a towel with a Tatar pattern from Rohatyn region, Bessarabian towels exchanged in our lands for a handful of grain or a crust of bread during the hunger of 1947, a napkin embroidered in a prison cell by political prisoners of the Soviet era.

The highlight of the museum is a mini-exhibition: the Ukrainian diaspora of the first quarter of the 20th century, a church corner, a collection of pysanky, grandmother's chests full of various goods, etc. The museum has an Opil room and a pantry. These rooms are filled with tools, household items, furniture, and embroidered shirts that our ancestors used.

Working hours: from 09:00 to 18:00. Day off: Saturday.
