Hill of Glory

At present, the hills are in poor condition (time and vandals are gradually destroying the monument), with many things broken, a lot of garbage, and in need of repair.
Many people associate the Hill of Glory with the Soviet period of Lviv's history, because it was then that the Memorial acquired its modern appearance. In fact, the history dates back to the First World War. Russian army soldiers who died in the Battle of Galicia in August 1914 are buried in the cemetery. Right behind the park were single graves of Russian soldiers and officers. Construction of the Hill of Glory began in 1945. The official opening took place on February 23, 1958. It is located in the eastern part of Lviv at the beginning of Pasichna Street. The area is 0.76 hectares. The object gained national status in 2002.

According to the 1918 plan by architect Adolf Wittmann, the cemetery consisted of two parts. In the summer after the Russians retreated from Lviv in 1915, the cemetery was left unattended and began to decay. In 1922, Prince Karol Bohutskyi wanted to restore the cemetery and applied to the directorate of the commission for the lustration of the cemetery of Russian soldiers in Lviv. In 1930, the owners of the land demanded compensation for the land occupied by the Russian military cemetery. The price was too high, and the magistrate decided to exhume all the graves in the Russian military cemetery. In 1936, the graves of Russian soldiers were exhumed and moved to the eastern section of the former military cemetery.

After the end of World War II, the ashes of the soldiers were moved to the Hill of Glory. In 1945, a project for the construction of the memorial was approved by the joint project of architects Andrii Natalchenko, Heinrich Shvetskyi Vinetskyi, and Ivan Persikov. The entrance to the memorial is decorated with two pylons made in the form of lowered banners. The center of the cemetery is designed as a circle. There are 65 soldiers buried in the cemetery in joint and 255 in individual graves.
