Yanovets Brewery, Tiachiv

Tiachiv, Zakarpattia region, Ukraine

Yanovets Brewery is a small town brewery with its own shop in Tiachiv, on Zaliznychna Street near the railway station. It is a recent addition: the first reviews describing “a new mini-brewery whose shop has just opened” date from 2024. It is neither a restaurant nor a pub but a working brewery with a shop, where beer is poured straight from the taps, fresh from the tanks. For travellers looking for craft beer in Zakarpattia on the way to Rakhiv or Solotvyno, it is a handy stop right on the main road along the Tysa valley.

Why stop here

Yanovets is valued for freshness: beer is sold on draught in bottles to take away, and according to visitors you can also have a glass on the spot at the counter. The shop assistant is happy to talk through every style, so even someone new to craft beer will easily find something to their taste. Visitors write that they come here on purpose to stock up on their way into the mountains, and one guest from Prague — a city with a serious beer culture — called the lager and the ale very tasty. The interior is simple and neat: a wooden wall of taps, chalkboards with the beer names and a large mural that shows the whole journey from malt to glass.

What to try and buy

The range is small but well chosen. The boards above the taps (as seen in visitors’ photos) list a wheat beer (5.5%), a classic lager (5%), an American ale (6.5%) and an unusual coconut milk stout (6.5%). For drivers and families there is kvass and lemonade, as well as the berry drink Fragolino. Beer is sold by the litre: according to the same photos, about UAH 80 per litre for the lighter beers and UAH 90 for the ale and stout (prices may change). The shop also sells snacks to go with the beer.

Brewing in Zakarpattia has a long history: for centuries beer was brewed on noble estates and in small towns, and Mukachevo and Berehove were well-known brewing centres. Today small breweries are reappearing across the region, and Yanovets is one of the youngest examples of this revival in the Tysa valley.
