In the center of Sniatyn, the Church of the Miracle of St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1880-1886. In 1878-1882, the UGCC priest Theophilus Kobrynsky lived here with his wife Natalia Kobrynska, one of the first Ukrainian feminists. He was the rector of the Church of the Holy Ascension. It was Father Theophilus who decided to build a new large church in the central district of Sniatyn to replace the old one. In the spring of 1880, the construction site was consecrated by Metropolitan Joseph Sembratovych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. This event was celebrated in the town for three days. The Lviv choir of theologians, once led by Father Theophilus, came here. Since then, Sniatyn has had its own church choir. Kobrynsky was both a conductor and a singer in it.

For the construction, material was needed. Father Theophilus managed to get permission from the Austrian authorities to use the bricks left over from the military barracks destroyed by a strong fire for construction work. All the residents of Sniatyn, including the priest himself, took part in the construction of the new church. During the construction work, he caught a bad cold and fell ill with tuberculosis. The priest died on April 14, 1882, without ever seeing the new church.

St. Michael's Church was opened for worship on September 19, 1886. It was consecrated by Bishop Julian Peles.

Grateful residents of Sniatyn installed a memorial plaque in memory of Theophilus Kobrynsky on the facade of the church.
