Spa & Aquapark Turčianske Teplice
Turčianske Teplice is one of Slovakia’s oldest spa towns. Its warm springs were first mentioned in 1281 in a deed of gift by King Ladislaus IV, and from 1533 they belonged for more than four centuries to the mining town of Kremnica, which developed the baths. Until 1948 the town was called Štubnianske Teplice. It lies in the Turiec basin between the Malá and Veľká Fatra, not far from Martin.
The Spa & Aquapark opened on the edge of the spa park at the beginning of summer 2007; its “godfather” was Archduke Michael von Habsburg-Lothringen, whose ancestors liked to holiday at the local springs. The operator calls it Slovakia’s only spa water park with healing water: at the springs the water is 44–46 °C and its mineral content reaches about 1,520 mg/l (hydrogen-carbonate-sulphate, calcium-magnesium type). The spa recommends it above all for musculoskeletal and urinary conditions.
What to see and do
- SPA zone. Healing mineral water up to 38 °C: the calm Red Bath (Červený kúpeľ) and the Folk Rehabilitation Bath (Ľudový kúpeľ) with water cannons and massage jets — both pools sit directly above the mineral springs — plus a whirlpool for 8 people.
- AQUAPARK zone. Thermal water up to 33–35 °C: an outdoor 25-metre swimming pool with massage jets, an attraction pool with massage loungers and a “wild river”, a round indoor sitting pool with light effects and two year-round slides — “Kamikadze” (47 m) and “Movie” (97 m) with sound and light effects.
- In summer there is also a big slide, a children’s pool with a slide and playground, an island bar and minigolf.
- Sauna world. Six saunas, experience showers, a relaxation zone and Thai massage; booking the sauna world and massages in advance is recommended.
The two zones are linked by an enclosed bridge, so moving between them is comfortable even in winter.
