Chochołowskie Termy

Chochołów 400, 34-513 Chochołów, Poland

Poland's largest thermal baths — in a Podhale village

Chochołowskie Termy stand in the village of Chochołów in the Podhale region, north-west of Zakopane and not far from the Slovak border. The operator calls the complex the largest thermal pool complex in Poland and in Podhale: almost 4,500 m² of water surface, made up of 52 different pool basins filled with mineral-rich thermal water. According to the official website, the water in the pools is 32–38 °C, so bathing outdoors is pleasant even in frost, with steam rising off the water and the Tatras in the background.

Besides the ordinary leisure pools there is a therapeutic zone: wooden tubs of raw sulphurous thermal water at 36 °C and a pool of iodised brine at 32 °C. The complex presents this water as beneficial for the skin, joints and circulation, but it also lists contraindications, so people with serious health conditions should consult a doctor first.

What to see and do

  • Outdoor thermal pools on two levels (638 m² and 855 m², about 1.2 m deep): wave machine, lazy river, massage jets, a swim-up bar, a climbing net, water volleyball and basketball.
  • Three tube slides with a total length of 318 m: a blue raft slide (164 m), a green one (80 m) and a trapdoor slide that drops away under your feet (74 m) for thrill-seekers.
  • Indoor pools: two pools with massage stations, seven small jacuzzis, a large 79 m² jacuzzi and a brine jacuzzi.
  • For children: a new kids' zone with almost 500 m² of water surface, water carousels, water cannons and a "castle" with slides; a separate pool for babies from 3 months to 3 years (30–32 °C), a nursing room, a playroom and, in summer, outdoor water playgrounds and a sandy beach.
  • For swimmers: a 25×10 m sports pool with 4 lanes and a 16×8 m pool with an underwater monitoring system that assists the lifeguards.
  • Saunas: a textile dry sauna and a salt grotto are included in the pool ticket. The separate Saunarium is the largest in Podhale: a panoramic sauna with a view of the Tatras, the "Highlander's Hut" (55 °C), a juniper sauna, a steam bath, an infrared cabin and the huge "Pierońska" sauna for 300 people (100 °C, open Friday to Sunday from 14:00). Aroma sessions take place daily at 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00.
  • There is also a spa, normobaric chambers (the first in Podhale), a gym, a restaurant and apartments right inside the complex.
