Meander Thermal Resort, Oravice

Oravice 109, Tvrdošín, Oravice (Tvrdošín), Slovakia

Meander Thermal & Ski Resort (formerly Meander Park) is a thermal water park and ski centre in the mountain settlement of Oravice in northern Slovakia, at the foot of the Western Tatras and right next to the Polish border. Zakopane is only about 15 km away as the crow flies, so plenty of visitors come over from the Polish Podhale region too. Oravice lies at around 790 m and belongs to the town of Tvrdošín.

The resort’s main pride is its water. According to Meander, the water in every pool is 100% geothermal: hot springs in the post-glacial Bobrovecká Valley amply feed the Oravice pools. Water temperatures range from 28 to 38 °C, so you can bathe in any weather and season — including in the outdoor pools with a mountain view in winter.

What to see and do

  • An indoor relaxation pool (38 °C) under a timber dome, with underwater seats, massage jets, wide steps and a ramp for people with reduced mobility.
  • An outdoor relaxation pool, reached through a water corridor, with underwater loungers, jet massage and a view of the Tatras.
  • An outdoor leisure pool with two relaxation zones and a water wall in the form of two wide waterfalls.
  • A sea-wave pool — the park’s biggest attraction.
  • A quiet senior zone — a smaller indoor pool for calm relaxation — and two jacuzzis behind a glass wall overlooking the Western Tatras.
  • A children’s pool (32 °C) with slides and water jets, plus a children’s play area.
  • In summer, three water slides, including the twin-track Duo Racer with a race timer.
  • Next door is the Skipark with more than 12 km of pistes (the lift’s lower station is 50 m from the water park entrance) and, in summer, a Bikepark with four trails totalling over 10 km and bike rental.

Nearby

Right next door are the municipal Oravice thermal pools — simpler and cheaper. Across the border, about 8 km as the crow flies, are the Chochołów Thermal Baths. From Oravice it is easy to reach the Museum of the Orava Village in Zuberec, the Roháče waterfalls and the wooden Church of All Saints in Tvrdošín.
