A sausage maker in the Teresva valley

Produkty Karpat ("Carpathian Products") is a family farm and sausage maker in the village of Neresnytsia in the Tiachiv area, in the Teresva river valley. The Tourism and Resorts Department of the Zakarpattia Regional Administration lists it among the region's craft producers, and locals know the brand mostly from its green-signed shops in Tiachiv, Teresva and Neresnytsia itself.

The company runs a full cycle: its own slaughter, boning and trimming rooms, a line for sausages and smoked meats, and cold stores. Everything from carcass to finished sausage happens on one site in Neresnytsia — unusual for a small mountain district.

Why stop by

There are no factory tours, but for travellers driving along the Tysa or up the Teresva valley a Produkty Karpat shop is a handy stop to buy fresh local sausages, smoked meats and meat for a picnic or the road. The shops regularly run seasonal offers: fresh rabbit and beef, marinated shashlik for the weekend and, before Easter, festive sausages and smoked meats for the traditional basket. The producer announces new products and "fresh meat days" on Instagram and Facebook.

What you can buy

The producer lists more than a hundred products:

• sausages — cooked, semi-smoked, cooked-smoked and salami-type;
• frankfurters, wieners and spikachky;
• smoked meats and cured loins, delicacies;
• ready-to-cook products and marinated shashlik;
• fresh meat — pork, chicken, sometimes beef and rabbit.

Villages along the Teresva have long kept livestock and prepared smoked meats for winter — shovdar ham, salo and sausages were air-dried and smoked. The modern producer continues the habit on a larger scale, and the freshest products are found right here in the valley where they are made.

Tip: if you're planning a picnic in the mountains, buy meat and sausages in Tiachiv or Teresva — further up the Teresva valley there are fewer big shops. Smoked and dry-cured products keep well on the road; carry fresh meat in a cool bag.
