The full name of the cultural institution is Regional Historical and Local Lore Museum of Hutsulshchyna. The idea of creating a unique cultural platform belongs to the famous Hutsul public and political figure, military man, ethnographer-folklorist, talented original writer, and deputy of the Polish Sejm, Petro Shekeryk-Donykiv. According to the founder's concept, the museum was to become a place for scientific research of the Eastern Carpathians and Hutsulshchyna in particular.

The Museum of Hutsulshchyna was opened in February 1938. Today it occupies the premises of a two-story wooden house No. 5, located on Ivana Franka Street.

At the time of the museum's opening, there were 8 rooms for researchers, a bathroom, a kitchen, a laundry room, several exhibition halls, a two-room meteorological tower, and a lecture-theater hall with a small stage.

With the arrival of the Soviets, the museum building was occupied by border guards. Later, after World War II, the building was set on fire, and what remained of it was dismantled. The museum's activities could only be restored at the end of 2004, and in 2007 the Museum of Hutsulshchyna became a structural unit of the Ivano-Frankivsk Local Lore Museum.

Currently, the museum has 5 exhibition halls that introduce visitors to the culture, history, nature, art, and everyday life of Hutsulshchyna, as well as the activities of various Hutsul cultural societies, etc.

The core of the museum collection consists of various household items, everyday and festive clothing, paintings, and much more. In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum often hosts extremely interesting master classes where one can observe how unique Hutsul carpets are made by the hands of Carpathian masters.
