The modern traveler sets off on a hike armed to the teeth with technology: smartphone, navigator, portable charger, camera - this is probably not the complete list of tourist gadgets. But, as they say, rely on technology but don’t be careless: knowledge of the basics of survival in the wild has never hurt anyone. Therefore, today we want to tell and show you how to make a compass using improvised means.
So, you will need: a container for water, a needle, and a piece of any floating material (foam, sponge, cork, or a simple leaf, as in our case).
Next, the actions are simple. Take the container and fill it with water. Then take the needle and magnetize one end of it: you can use a magnet, and if you don’t have one - fabric or even your own hair. Now place the magnetized needle on the piece of floating material and lower it into the container with water. After a while, our needle will stop oscillating, and its magnetized side will point from south to north.
