Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Kuty

Kuty is a very rich village because it has two beautiful churches. Although the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin looks more modest than St. Michael's, it is only due to its exterior decoration: it is covered not with shingles but with shingles and tin. However, in our subjective opinion, such circumstances reveal its harmonious forms more clearly. Unfortunately, after the last renovation, both the shingles and the tin lost their natural colors, and an ugly metal tile appeared over the mediocrely "renovated" dangling (so much for a monument of national importance). The same "renovation" befell the bell tower. Fortunately, we also have old photos.

The church has preserved a classic Greek Catholic iconostasis of the arched type, dating from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and several interesting Baroque and Renaissance icons. But even if you don't manage to get inside, don't be discouraged: despite all the renovation troubles, the church estate with the surrounding cemetery still retains a charming romanticism and centuries-old coziness.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Kuty was built on the territory of the old village cemetery in the 18th century. In 1750, the final work was carried out by talented woodworkers, whose hands built a high church with domes and a gallery, a separately attached altar, as well as a crypt-chapel located nearby.

Thanks to the work of the architects, most of the temple is perfectly preserved and does not require large-scale restoration. Many elements of the building were repaired in the 1930s, somewhat changing the original appearance of the building. Reinforcing walls were replaced here and metal structures were added, which, at the same time, do not spoil the external architecture, but only extend the life of the ancient church.

Inside the temple you can admire the oil painting by Y. Levitsky, unique creations preserved since 1936. The gilded iconostasis, with carved wooden inserts, is an example of the talent of the 18th century masters. It has perfectly survived the centuries and is in good condition.
