Horyany Rotunda (St. Anne's Church), Uzhhorod
The Horyany Rotunda is the oldest monument in Uzhhorod. It is located on one of the hills of the Horyany neighborhood. The rotunda is small in size and rounded in shape - 2.5 meters thick.
History.
The Horyany Rotunda was accidentally discovered in the half-forgotten church of St. Anne, where renovation work was underway. One of the craftsmen noticed that colored frescoes were peeking out from under the plaster. As soon as the discovery became known, experts from Budapest arrived. They determined that the murals were made in the 14th and 15th centuries. The rotunda itself was dated to the 11th-12th centuries.
What you can see
You can see frescoes created in 1360-1370. There are also interior paintings in the rotunda of the Italian school of Giotto.
Getting there.
From the Uzhhorod railway station by bus #10. Get off in the Horyany neighborhood, walk along Horyanska Street until you turn right, there will be a small hill where you will see the monument.
