Church of the Transfiguration, Lazeshchyna
Between Yasinia and the next village, Lazeshchyna, in the Plytovatyi tract, stands the second Transcarpathian five-storey Hutsul church dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord. The five log cabins of the church are formed by the intersection of two rectangles that have an almost equilateral cross in plan. Four of the frames are covered with gable roofs with small tent-like dormers. The central log house turns into an eight-walled drum covered with a steep eight-pitched tent. In contrast to the prudent, horizontal forms of the Strukiv church, all volumes here are subordinated to the vertical. Inside, the large central room is covered with a tent, while the side log cabins are covered with a flat floor.
It is generally believed that the church was built of spruce timbers in 1780 in the village of Yablunytsia on the Ivano-Frankivsk side of the Yablunytsia Pass, and in the winter of 1871 it was transported by sled to Plytovatyi. Given the composition of the church's forms, it seems more likely to date the church according to the inscription: "This House of God was built for the glory of God by Mykhailo Plastuniak and his wife Maria Telechuk in 1871, and by the founder Yurko Lekliuk in 1872." In 1932, the old images of the iconostasis were replaced with new ones.
In 1963, the church was closed and turned into a museum. In 1971, the church and the two-tiered spruce bell tower were restored. Since 1990, the church has been operating again. The church and the bell tower form a magnificent ensemble of classical Hutsul architecture, but in 1995 both buildings were unfortunately covered with tin.
