Church of St. John Nepomuk, Rakhiv

TheChurch of St. John Nepomuky is one of the main architectural monuments of the small town of Rakhiv, Transcarpathian region. The temple is located in the central part of the city. The building was built in the middle of the 19th century. Nowadays the Church of St. John Nepomuky is the center of the spiritual life of the city. On the wall, on the right side of the entrance, there is a sculpture to the victims of communism in 1956.

The history of the church begins with the appearance in the city of a Roman Catholic community of immigrants from Upper Austria in 1782. Initially, the main church of the community was located in a converted Greek Catholic chapel. The Church of St. John the Baptist in Rakhiv was built in 1825. In 1872, the first restoration of the church was carried out. Then the roof of the shrine was raised and a bell tower was added. In 1884, the church was equipped with an organ.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the church was restored again, which lasted from 2004 to 2005. It was during this period that the architecture of the church acquired modern features. The Church of St. John the Baptist is made of red brick. Its main decoration is the tower, which is located above the main entrance to the shrine. From the facade, the scale of the church is not noticeable; it has the shape of a rectangle extended into the courtyard.

The church is located in the central part of the city. Rakhiv is a border town in the Zakarpattia region. It is 200 km from Uzhhorod and 137 km from Ivano-Frankivsk. You can get here by rail from Lviv or Ivano-Frankivsk. The city is also connected to the regional centers by bus.
