Church of the Reformers, Velyki Berehy
TheReformers' Church in Velyki Berehy was built in 1335, although there are versions of both later and earlier origins of this building (rebuilt in 1405 and 1554). For various reasons, the church was rebuilt every century. In 1544, the peasants themselves destroyed the church, having converted to Calvinism. In 1657, the church was destroyed by the soldiers of Prince Lubomirski, but restored 3 years later and later completely rebuilt.
Further rebuilding and reconstruction took place in 1749, 1817, 1824, and 1869. Despite numerous alterations, the church's design retains Gothic motifs.
The Gothic spirit is preserved in the ceiling of the nave and apse with ribbed Gothic vaults painted in the 18th century and decorated with Renaissance ornaments. As a "Gothic church," the church is included in the list of architectural monuments of local significance.
The Catholic monastery "Malyi Bereh" was also mentioned in 1329 in the vicinity of the village of Berehy, which was destroyed in 1554 during the wars with the Protestants.
Artistic paintings from this century have survived to this day. The last time the church was completely reconstructed was in the late 19th century. The church in Velyki Beregy is located on Ferenc Rákóczi Street, just a few meters from the highway.
