Oleksa Dovbush Museum, Kosmach
Prykarpattia has long been famous for its architectural monuments and ancient churches. There are a large number of museums in our region. They are located not only in Ivano-Frankivsk, but also throughout our region. All of these cultural and historical institutions can tell their visitors about the history, life, cultural development, and prominent people who played a significant role in the history of our region.
When you visit Prykarpattia, you can't miss the Oleksa Dovbush Museum, located in a picturesque corner of Kosiv district, in the village of Kosmach. In the 1970s, Pokuttya local historian Mykhailo Didyshyn bought the house that had previously belonged to Stepan Dzvinchuk. According to legend, the Ukrainian hero Oleksa Dovbush was killed in the house. Since then, the house, which was transported and installed in Mykhailo Didyshyn's yard, has become a private museum that can be visited by all admirers of the outstanding Ukrainian liberator. In addition to the house with exhibits, the entire composition of the complex is complemented by a monument to O. Dovbush, which was carved by Mykhailo Didyshyn himself. The monument was unveiled on July 3, 1988, in the presence of about 2,000 people, including well-known cultural figures from Prykarpattia.
The main exhibit of the private museum is the wooden hut, but there are many other interesting things in its premises. The museum's collection today includes about 500 exhibits, including household items of the Hutsul community: hatchets, keptsars, boots, etc. One of the museum's most valuable exhibits is the barrel of the rifle that (according to old-timers) killed Oleksa Dovbush. The museum also houses the weapon that Dovbush used to punish the disobedient, and a precious relic - a set of 12 rings, one of which is engraved with the date "1724".
Today the museum is thriving and open around the clock. The owners of the foundation closely guard the property stored within the walls of the Dovbush House and refuse all offers to sell the exhibits.
