Local history museum of flora and fauna of the Carpathians (Knyazhdvirsky reserve)

The local history museum of the Carpathian flora and fauna is located on the territory of the Knyazhdvirsky Nature Reserve. Here you can learn about the history of the region, breeds of rare and endangered animals, birds and plants of the Carpathian region. There are interesting and diverse collections of rare insects, specimens of trees and shrubs, minerals, and the "Nature's Creations" exhibition.

The main purpose of the unique botanical state reserve "Knyazhdvir" is to preserve in its natural state the rare in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe plantation of yew berry, which has scientific and practical value. The museum's exposition impresses with the number of rare exhibits and their age.

In 1913, more than 20 thousand yew trees and bushes grew in the future reserve. Later, in 1914, the territory became a nature reserve, and only in 1974 was the status of a protected area approved.

Today, the territory of the reserve reaches 206 hectares, including 36 hectares of natural forest and 20 hectares of artificial forest. The reserve has more than 10 thousand trees of the berry yew, a rare tree species in Ukraine and Europe that is of great scientific value.

In connection with the collection of valuable exhibits, a museum was created to store the rare finds of the reserve. The museum is also included in the list of facilities that can be visited by people with disabilities.

The institution presents the history of the region in detail with exhibits:

• breeds of rare and endangered animals, birds and plants of the Carpathian region;
• various collections of rare insects;
• samples of woody and shrubby species, minerals;
• a separate exposition "Creations of Nature".

While in the protected area, you should definitely take a walk around the area - a real natural find grows next to the museum.

The Museum of Carpathian Flora and Fauna is located in the village of Kniazhdvir on the territory of the botanical reserve. You can get to the village by bus from Kolomyia or by your own transport. The distance is about 12 km.
