Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (lower), Serednye Vodyane

TheChurch of St. Nicholas ("lower" or "lower") is a wooden church, a monument of folk architecture and monumental painting of the seventeenth century in the village of Serednie Vodyane, Rakhiv district, Zakarpattia region.

The Lower Nicholas Church consists of two oak log cabins-a larger rectangular one divided into a nave and a chancel, and a smaller pentagonal altar log cabin. Both log cabins are covered with a high gable roof under a shingle covering and are covered with a ribbon of fencing. Inside, the central room is covered with an arched vault, the Babinets with a trapezoidal vault, and the altar log cabin with a flat ceiling. The tall frame tower is covered with a tent, which is typical for many churches in the Rakhiv region. The austere-looking church is devoid of any decorations, except for small windows that break the monolithic surface of the log cabins. An interesting feature is the door on the southern façade, while the western façade has no door.

The inscription on the log house says that "the church was built in the year of God 1699." The craftsman was a local Ruthenian, and the church was raised to replace the lower rotten logs of the log house. Thus, the church was built at least 40-50 years before it was raised, in the middle of the seventeenth century.

In the church of St. Nicholas, which dates back to the seventeenth century, previously unknown wall paintings were discovered during interior work.
