Shops of Carpathian makers

Not every artisan stands at a market: much handmade work is sold in small craft shops in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia, Kosiv, Yaremche, Chernivtsi and other towns. Under one roof you will find lizhnyk blankets and rugs, ceramics, embroidery, woodcarving and leather goods, plus local treats — cheese, honey, jams, tea and craft drinks.

The staff usually know who made each item and are happy to tell you about the technique and ornament. It is an easy way to bring home genuine Carpathian handmade work and support local makers, even without time to travel from village to village.

Tip: ask whether an item is handmade and by whom; prices can be higher than at a market, but the choice is better curated. Opening hours may change at weekends and holidays — check before you go.
