The village of Bohorodchany is located on the right bank of the mountain river Bystrytsia-Solotvynska and on the western side of the Black Forest. An important route for vacationers passes through the village, leading to the most popular mountain resorts: Yablunytsia, Bukovel, Yaremche, Verkhovyna, Dragobrat. The town has preserved the complex of the Dominican monastery from the XVIII century. In the first half of the eighteenth century, opryshky units led by O. Dovbush were active in the vicinity of Bohorodchany. In the second half of the nineteenth century, a well-known progressive activist and poet A. Mohylnyi lived in Bohorodchany. Bohorodchany was the county center. The town had the privilege of holding fairs twice a month. The old coat of arms of Bohorodchany depicts the city wall (without gates) on a blue background, with three towers above it.

For 127 years, the local church housed the famous iconostasis from the Maniava Skete, a landmark of Galician Baroque art. This iconostasis was painted in 1698-1705 in the Skete by a group of master painters led by Job Kondzelevych (1667-1740).

After the liquidation of the Maniavskyi Skete in 1785, its property was sold and taken away. During the liquidation of the monastery property, the Bohorodchany community bought the iconostasis from the Church of the Exaltation for 60 zlotys, transported it to Bohorodchany, and placed it in the local church. In 1913, the Bohorodchany iconostasis was sent to Vienna for restoration, and meanwhile, during the First World War, the church in Bohorodchany burned down. Fortunately, the iconostasis was preserved and transported to the National Museum in Lviv. Bohorodchany lost its landmark, but the name of the town has forever entered the history of art.

On the territory of the village itself, there is a 17th-century Dominican monastery (church, clergy chambers, cells, wall with a gate - 61 T. Shevchenko St.), which is not only an architectural but also a historical monument. Tourists are happy to visit it. The first written mention of Bohorodchany dates back to 1441. It says that the owner of Bohorodchany was Jan from Buchach. The villagers have been engaged in crafts and farming since ancient times. The most common specialties of the artisans were tailoring and weaving. This is evidenced by the names of the streets that have survived to this day: Tkatska, Riznycha. In the second half of the XV century, Bohorodchany became the property of the Potocki nobility.

In 1691, by order of Countess K. Potocka, a church was built in Bohorodchany, and a group of small gentry and several dozen artisans from Poland settled around it. The church became the center of the population's Catholicization. In the first half of the eighteenth century, opryshky groups, including residents of Bohorodchany, were active in the vicinity of Bohorodchany. In 1744, the opryshky led by Oleksa Dovbush made a bold attack on the fortress in Bohorodchany, where the rebels seized many weapons and destroyed tax registers, lease agreements, and more.

After the first partition of Poland, Bohorodchany came under the rule of the Habsburg monarchy (since 1804 - the Austrian Empire), and the town became the property of Austrian barons who pursued a policy of dehumanizing the Ukrainian population. Ukrainian culture and customs were persecuted. Economic development was deliberately hindered. Bohorodchany remained a small town in the second half of the eighteenth century: In 1786 there were only 314 houses and 1,134 inhabitants. In 1789, the Austrian authorities opened a German school, and in 1770 they founded a folk school.

In the middle of the nineteenth century, social and political life in Bohorodchany intensified, in particular, the activities of Ivan Kapuschak, a member of the Austrian parliament from the Solotvynsk district, are noteworthy. In June 1848, the Russian Council was established here, consisting of 29 members. After the reform of 1848, the first enterprises appeared in Bohorodchany. In 1870, the town had a small brewery, a distillery, and a woodworking workshop. At the end of the nineteenth century, they employed more than 100 workers.

For spiritual nourishment, every traveler should definitely visit the Maniava Skete and Maniava Waterfall, which is the highest known waterfall in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
