Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the village of Rosokhy

The stone Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is the only attraction of the small village of Rosokhy. Once the white walls of the church protected the peace and tranquility of the locals. It is not known exactly when the monastery was built. It is assumed that the massive vaults of the church were part of the defensive fortifications of the 15th-17th centuries. At that time, the church was considered the most solid structure in the village. The 1-meter-thick walls of chipped stone have saved hundreds of lives throughout their lifetime.

With the cessation of destructive raids, the church became the only religious building in the village. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary underwent a large number of reconstructions that destroyed its original appearance. The only thing that was preserved until 1980 was the unique shingle roof of the church. During the last reconstruction in the 1980s, the shingle roof disappeared as well, replaced by tin and slate. This was the last straw in destroying the authenticity of the shrine.

Despite the fact that the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is included in the list of cultural heritage of Ukraine, no funding is allocated for its restoration. The church's decent appearance is the result of the work of the local community, which maintains the building on its own.

Today the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin is closed to the public. Rare tourists can only admire the top of the building, which looks out over the fence.
