Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, Bolekhiv
In the town of Bolekhiv, there is the Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Wives, built in 1906. Originally, a wooden church of the same name stood on this site. According to researchers, the ancient church was built in the 17th century. The new church was built of natural stone. Large-scale construction and restoration work was carried out in 1793 and in 1868. The construction of the new church was carried out by the priest Ivan Ozarkevych, who arrived in the city in 1884.
In 1909, the new church building was consecrated by Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. During the Soviet era, the church did not function and was closed to parishioners and tourists. In the spring of 2009, in honor of the church's centennial, the Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Wives was granted the status of a cathedral. Today it operates as usual and its doors are always open to believers and travelers. The church is the main temple of the city and the pride of the entire Carpathian region.
The Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Wives is a three-domed church, one of the domes is large, and the other two are smaller and absolutely identical. The church windows are made in an elongated arched shape, which gives them grace. To the right of the main entrance to the church is a rather large chapel built in the same style as the temple. Outside, the church has a gray color, which is typical for stone buildings, and its central entrance is decorated with three painted icons. Their bright colors stand out against the gray color and catch the eye even before approaching the temple. The domes on the church also have an unusual color: the upper part of each dome is painted blue, and the lower part is gold. The area around the church is fenced, and ornamental plants and trees grow in its yard.
The Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Wives in Bolekhiv has the status of an architectural monument of local importance.
The compact temple is hidden behind a low fence and attracts tourists with its play of colors and golden domes. Above the main entrance are frescoes depicting saints. The entire structure of the cathedral is directed upward, which is emphasized by its tiered and slender structure, and numerous, albeit small arched windows make the building light.
The Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Wives is located in the center of Bolekhiv at 6 Ozarkevycha Street, not far from the town hall.
