International Wine Days in Jasło: a wine fair on the square
Jasło is a small town in Podkarpacie that is often called one of the cradles of Poland's wine revival. It was here, at the end of the 20th century, that Roman Myśliwiec planted one of the country's first modern vineyards, and today the Jasło Wine Route (Jasielski Szlak Winny) links sixteen vineyards around the town. The biggest celebration of this community is the International Wine Days (Międzynarodowe Dni Wina): every year, on the last weekend of the summer holidays, Jasło's market square turns into a large wine fair for three days.
The first Wine Days took place in 2005, when a key moment was the winemakers' petition about excise rules that made life hard for small family vineyards. Since then the event has grown into a full festival, organised by the Jasło Winemakers' Association "Vinum Pro Cultura" together with the town and the Jasło House of Culture. In 2025 more than 70 exhibitors took part — wineries, regional food producers and craftspeople. The jubilee twentieth festival took place on 28–30 August 2026.
Why go
- Taste Polish wine straight from the winemakers. The square hosts the "Wine Gardens" (Ogrody Winne) — stands of vineyards from Podkarpacie, Małopolska and other regions plus foreign guests. You can compare grape varieties suited to the Carpathian climate and talk to the people who grow them.
- Open Vineyards Day. On Friday there are trips along routes to nearby wineries with tastings on site; in 2026 there were two routes — to Dwie Granice, Samboria and the Podkarpacka Manufaktura Win, and to Vanellus, Sztukówka and Widokowa. Tickets are required.
- Tasting workshops in the Wine Salon at Wyspiańskiego 16 — small groups where sommeliers teach you to recognise aromas and styles.
- The Polish Wine Competition — the winners are announced during the festival; in 2025 the wines were judged by an international jury.
- Small-town atmosphere: a parade of participants with the town brass band, concerts, a morning run, a Mass with the blessing of wine in the collegiate church, and an evening walk through the municipal "Jasło" vineyard with a free bus.
What to taste and buy
The stars are white wines from Solaris, Johanniter, Seyval Blanc and Hibernal, and reds from Rondo, Regent or Cabernet Cortis — the hardy varieties that do best in Podkarpacie. Next to them runs the Regional Products Fair (Jarmark Produktów Regionalnych) with cheeses, honey, fruit liqueurs, bread and the work of local makers. A traditional Saturday highlight is the ceremonial cutting of a 40-kilogram wheel of Parmesan and a talk on pairing cheese with wine.
Practical information
When: every year on the last weekend of August, Friday to Sunday (2026: 28–30 August; on the square Saturday 11:00–23:00, Sunday 12:00–20:00). Where: the market square (Rynek) in the centre of Jasło and a few venues nearby. Jasło lies on road 28 (Nowy Sącz – Przemyśl) and road 73 from Tarnów; on the festival Saturday special trains run from Kraków and Rzeszów, and in 2025 the "Retro Express Bieszczady" heritage train also came, with a tasting in the dining car. Parking in the centre is limited on these days, so leave the car further out and walk. Tickets for workshops and vineyard trips are sold in advance through the festival website. Organisers' contacts: +48 604 052 132, +48 502 105 994, [email protected]. The festival is family-friendly, but tastings are for adults only.
