Epiphany Church, Oryavchik
During your vacation in the village of Oryavchyk, you will have the opportunity to see wonderful historical architectural monuments, among which a special place is occupied by the Epiphany Church with a bell tower built in 1865.
The Church of the Epiphany is a functioning wooden church of the Boyko type, an architectural monument of national importance (protection number 1417), in the village of Oryavchyk on a hillside, above a stream, in the cemetery of the Skole district in Lviv region. The parish belongs to the Skole Deanery of the Drohobych-Sambir Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The Church of the Epiphany and the bell tower in Oryavchyk are a vivid example of 19th-century architecture of the Boykivshchyna. The building is located in an amazing place - on a hillside, right above a winding Carpathian river. The church itself is a three-story structure made of wooden log cabins. Thanks to its original architecture, the church looks harmonious at any time of the year.
The wooden church of the Boyko type is three-story, three-roofed, and oriented with the altar to the northeast. The nave of the church has an octagonal top with five creases, the top of the narthex with three, and the altar, which has no attached sacristy, with two. An equally wide glazed porch is attached to the narthex, and a gallery is on the second tier. A wide fence surrounds the church's perimeter. All three tower-like volumes are combined into a pyramidal composition, in which the horizontal rhythm of divisions increases from the dome. In the interior, the space of all the floors is open.
The bell tower was built earlier than the church, in 1801, as evidenced by the carvings on the doorjamb. It differs from the church in its squat proportions. The bell tower's three-tiered quadrangle is crowned by a low octagonal tent with a decorative dome. The first tier is log, surrounded by a canopy on curly brackets, the 2nd and 3rd tiers are open arcades-galleries of frame construction. Despite the relatively small size and emphasized laconicism of the architectural solution, the bell tower plays an important accent in the composition of the ensemble.
The church and the bell tower form an expressive ensemble of Boyko sacred architecture and are an architectural monument of national importance.
