Central Mineral Water Pump Room No. 1, Truskavets

Truskavets, Lviv region, Ukraine

Central Mineral Water Pump Room No. 1 is the heart of the Truskavets spa and the place holidaymakers head for every morning, afternoon and evening with their own drinking cups. The light colonnaded building stands on Torosevycha Boulevard by the Resort Park; inside, taps with different mineral waters, piped straight from the wells, line the walls of a spacious hall. This is where people drink the famous Naftusya – the water that made Truskavets famous back in Austro-Hungarian times, when the first bath house was built here in 1827.

Why go: a water found nowhere else

Naftusya is a low-mineral bicarbonate magnesium-calcium water (around 0.6–0.9 g/l) containing organic substances of petroleum origin, which give it a recognisable faint taste. It loses some of its properties on contact with air, so it is traditionally drunk fresh at the source. Besides Naftusya, the central pump room serves Maria (spring No. 1) and Sofia (spring No. 2), drawn from greater depths, and Bronislava (spring No. 3), the most mineralised, used not for drinking but for gargling and nasal rinsing. Nearby in the Resort Park the Yuzia spring flows freely; its water is used for washing the face.

These waters act differently and have different contraindications, so your drinking regimen – which water, how much, before or after meals, warm or cold – should be prescribed by a doctor, usually a spa physician at a sanatorium or clinic. Self-prescribing can do harm, for example if you have kidney or gall stones. Even on a short trip rather than a full course, consult a doctor before drinking mineral water regularly.

How it works: cash desk, card, cup

  • Water at the central pump room is paid. You buy an electronic card at the cash desk, top it up there or at the terminal next to it, and tap the card on the reader by the tap to draw water. According to visitors, a litre cost about UAH 40 in 2026; check the current price on site.
  • You will need your own mineral water cup – the traditional porcelain or ceramic one with a spout so you can sip slowly. Cups, bottles and souvenirs are sold in the pump room itself and at the souvenir market next door.
  • At peak times (mornings before breakfast) there can be queues at the taps – part of the local ritual, like the unhurried stroll in the park between glasses.
  • Visitors note there is no toilet in the building; the nearest paid one is about 200 m away.

Getting there: the pump room is in the very centre of Truskavets, a 10–15-minute walk from the railway and bus stations.
