The village of Bernove is located on the right bank of the Dniester, 18 km from the district center of Kelmentsi. The population is 1125 people.

The village borders the Podilski Tovtry National Nature Park. Near the village, in the waters of the Dniester River, there is an ichthyological reserve of local importance "Bernivskyi Island". It was established on February 08, 1996. The total area is 25 hectares. This island was formed as a result of the creation of the Dniester reservoir, it is covered with herbaceous and shrubby vegetation, and its size varies depending on the water level. According to long-term observations, the shallow water around the island is a spawning ground for valuable fish species: catfish, pike, carp, bream, and other species of commercial importance.

Bernove was first mentioned in written sources in the 17th century. In its vicinity, settlements of the Trypillian culture (IV millennium BC), Scythian times (VI-III centuries BC) and Cherniakhivska culture (II-VI centuries AD) were discovered.

There is a village museum, a wooden church of St. Dmytro (1887, synodal - Kelmenets region was under the Romanovs), and a recreation center, because Bernove is far from the roads, but close to a major waterway of Ukraine. The Dniester is wide here, and the shore is a solid beach (if you turn a blind eye to the total silt and piles of garbage). Neither Bernove nor Slobidka-Malynovetska has any wells on the high second bank, which is solid stone under the villages. That is why Bernove has had a water supply system since 1959.
