Bachledka Treetop Walk
The Bachledka Treetop Walk (Chodník korunami stromov Bachledka) is a wooden footbridge above the forest on a ridge of the Spišská Magura hills, over the Bachledova dolina valley near the village of Ždiar. It is one of the easiest ways to see the Tatras from above without any hiking: a gondola takes you up and the walkway itself is fully barrier-free. That is why families with small children and pushchairs, older visitors and wheelchair users come here.
The route is 1,234 m long in total: 603 m on the walkway among the treetops and another 631 m on the spiral ramp of the 32 m observation tower. The walkway rises up to 24 m above the ground, is 1.8 m wide, its gradient never exceeds 2–6 %, and transparent nets along the sides keep the view open. The structure stands on 120 supports.
What to see and do
- Tower panorama. From the top platform you can see the peaks of the Belianske Tatras, the Pieniny and the picturesque Zamagurie region. An interactive telescope on the tower names the Belianske Tatras peaks.
- Nature trail. Information boards on the level part of the walkway tell you about animals, plants and the life of local forests, their protection and the destructive force of storms. Groups can book a guided tour with a ranger of the Pieniny National Park.
- Tower slide. You can come down from the tower by a covered slide (children and adults from 120 cm, €3 per ride).
- Other resort attractions. Nearby are the "Kingdom of the Forest" (Kráľovstvo lesa), mountain carts and a bobsleigh track; on the ridge there is a restaurant with a children's corner, toilets and a souvenir shop.
Practical information
Getting there. The main access is from the Bachledova dolina valley: turn off the road between Ždiar and Tatranská Kotlina and follow the signs to the BACHLEDKA resort. The resort's own car parks P1 and P2 by the lower station hold about 1,000 cars; parking costs €6 per day per car. At weekends they fill up, and cars are then sent to another car park with a shuttle service. Buses from Poprad, Kežmarok, Tatranská Lomnica and Tatranská Javorina stop at "Bachledova dolina, rázcestie", about 1–1.5 km from the resort. A 10-seat gondola takes you up to the walkway in under 7 minutes. On foot you can climb from Malá Franková (1.1 km uphill across a meadow, moderate) or from the lake in Jezersko; walking up the forest path from Bachledka is at your own risk and only in proper footwear.
Opening hours (as of October 2026): May–June 9:00–17:00, July–August 9:00–18:00, September 9:00–17:00, October–April 9:00–16:00. Last entry is one hour before closing. Note: from 2 to 30 November 2026 the whole resort, including the walkway and the gondola, is closed for planned maintenance; it reopens on 1 December 2026.
Tickets (desk / online): walkway with return gondola — adult (15–64) €30 / €29, children 3–14 and seniors 65+ €24 / €23; family ticket 2+1 €70 / €68, 2+2 €79 / €77. Walkway only without the gondola (desk only) — €15 for adults and €12 for children and seniors. Dogs are not allowed on the walkway; there are kennels by the entrance. The walkway is open in any weather except thunderstorms and strong wind, but in fog there will be no panorama. It is busiest between 10:00 and 15:00, at weekends and in school holidays — come early.
