AquaCity Poprad water park

Športová 1397/1, 058 01 Poprad, Slovakia

AquaCity Poprad is a large year-round water park and wellness complex in the town of Poprad, a few minutes from the centre; according to the complex, the High Tatras are about 15 minutes away by car. It is a good choice for a day when the mountains are wet, foggy or the high trails are closed: warm water, slides and saunas, and nobody has to walk anywhere.

The heart of the complex is a geothermal source. According to AquaCity, the water rises from a depth of about 1,300 m, reaches the surface at roughly 49 °C and contains more than 20 minerals. The analysis published by the complex is dominated by calcium (470 mg/l), magnesium (153 mg/l), hydrogen carbonates (1,590 mg/l) and sulphates (616 mg/l). The heat of the water is first used to warm the buildings and hotels; in the pools the water is disinfected with UV light, and most basins are made of stainless steel so that less chlorine is needed.

What to see and do

  • 14 indoor and outdoor pools with water from 28 to 38 °C and more than 350 water attractions.
  • The outdoor thermal pool (33–35 °C) is open all year — especially atmospheric in winter, when steam hangs over the water.
  • The indoor Blue Diamond pools (34 °C) with in-water bars and the Blue Sapphire pools (30 and 35 °C).
  • Slides: the year-round Black Hole (Čierna diera) and Twister; in summer also a family slide, Kamikaze and a rafting chute.
  • For children: the indoor Treasure Island world (34 °C), play corners and, in summer, the Mayan Pyramid and the inflatable Fun Park.
  • A swimming centre with a stainless-steel 50 m pool (26–28 °C) and an outdoor swimming pool (28–30 °C).
  • Fire & Water Wellness & Spa — according to the owners, the largest two-storey wellness centre in Slovakia: eight saunas and inhalation rooms, ceremonial sauna shows, a snow cave and a whirlpool relaxation pool. Wellness costs extra.
