Ukrainska Lehenda (“Ukrainian Legend”) is a cosy Ukrainian-cuisine restaurant in central Truskavets at 23 Tarasa Shevchenka Street. It is tucked away in a courtyard behind a wooden gate: inside there is a small dining room with embroidered ornaments, woven panels, dried flowers and fresh flowers on the tables, and in summer a terrace under strings of lights. For spa guests looking not for a diet canteen or a pizzeria but for a home-style Ukrainian meal served in earthenware, it is one of the warmest places in town: on Google Maps it is rated 4.7 from nearly three hundred reviews.

Atmosphere

Lehenda does not try to be a loud ethno-restaurant — it feels more like a family home where guests are greeted warmly and food arrives quickly and neatly. Carved clay plates and jugs, embroidered towels and ears of wheat create a festive Ukrainian mood, and in the evenings there is live music: visitors praise the singer for keeping the volume pleasant and the song choice interesting. Many guests eat here every day of their spa stay — breakfast, lunch and dinner — and come back the following year.

It works well for families: parents write that their children happily ate everything ordered, and simpler dishes without extra spices are prepared for picky eaters. Guests also mention fair prices for a resort and generous portions, so Lehenda is often chosen for everyday lunches, not just for a festive dinner.

What to try

Borshch in a clay bowl with pampushky buns or bread and salo — the classic that is ordered most often.
Deruny in a pot — potato pancakes baked with meat and mushrooms under sour cream; guests single them out in particular.
Varenyky with various fillings and deruny with sour cream.
Soups in a pot — solianka, broths and cream soups served in lidded ceramic pots.
Breakfasts — porridge with berries, syrnyky, eggs: the restaurant opens at 9:00, handy for guests heading to the pump room in the morning.

The menu combines Ukrainian and European cuisine, so everyone in a group will find something, and a simpler dish can always be requested for children. We did not find a public online menu with prices — check the current choice and prices at the restaurant.

The restaurant hosts banquets and buffets: family celebrations, christenings, birthdays or gatherings of spa groups. The small dining room makes such evenings intimate, while the summer terrace lets you celebrate in the open air. Arrange the event, menu and number of guests by phone in advance.

Getting there: the restaurant is in the central part of Truskavets, a few minutes' walk from the main sanatoriums and the pedestrian zone; about 10 minutes from the central pump room. If you come by car, look for parking on nearby streets. Trains and buses run to Truskavets from Lviv, and minibuses from Drohobych and Boryslav.
