Church of the Archangel Michael, Kalush

In the cozy town of Kalush in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, there is one of the main and oldest stone churches in the city, the Greek Catholic Church of the Archangel Michael. Many visitors like the elegance and simplicity of the church.

St. Michael's Church has an interesting history. The church was consecrated on November 21, 1913, by Father Dmytro Rozhanovsky. About 5 thousand people attended the consecration.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in the traditional Byzantine style, three-nave with a small narthex, crowned with 5 domes. It was designed by V. Nahirny in 1906. It was based on the project of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Lviv. The project was realized by T. Melnychuk (1910-1913). Father Volodymyr Petrushevych, Tymofii Pitulei, and Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi contributed to the construction of the Church of the Archangel Michael in Kalush.

There are 2 columns with towers in the form of small domes on both sides of the portal. The five-tiered iconostasis, made in 1927, surprises with the skill of the Bolekhiv carver I. Lenilo. Inside the church, you can see polychrome paintings that were made in 1936-1938 by a group of Lviv artists led by Pavlo Kovzhun and Mykhailo Osinchuk.
