The Kalush Museum was founded in December 1997 in a building that is an architectural monument and belonged to the city's Jewish community until 1939. Its main activities include research on the history of Kalush and the region, as well as museum pedagogy classes. The museum's area is 145 m2. The exposition is based on more than a thousand exhibits, several hundred of which are originals.

The exhibition covers the history of the region and introduces visitors to the ethnographic features of the region. It is divided into five sections: "Geography of Kalush Region. Prehistoric times.", "Our land under the rule of Poland and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy", "During the years of liberation struggle", "Modern times", "Life and ethnography of Kalush region".

A separate section is devoted to exhibits-gifts.

Two halls of the museum are devoted to the art gallery. It houses a unique collection of primitive paintings by Petro Savchyn (32 works). The subject matter of the works is historical cataclysms in Ukraine in the first half of the XX century. The artistic level of these paintings is extremely high, recognized by many famous art critics.

Little-known and rare documents on the history of Kalush region

The exhibition consists of such thematic sections as: "Sources on the History of Kalush in the XV-XVIII centuries", "Documents of the XIX century", "Manuscript books from the parish archive of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Kalush", "Cartographic materials" of the first half of the XX century", "Documents on education of the first half of the XX century".

Rare materials about the engineer-inventor Jakub Heller (born on October 22, 1909 in Kalush), the author of a number of technical inventions, are exhibited. Equally interesting are the documents on education of the first half of the twentieth century that belonged to the Sandurski family. The exhibition includes certificates of Ivan Sandursky (born in 1869), the director of a separate school, on completion of the second year of study at the Lviv Gymnasium (1884), a "Patent for a teacher of separate schools" (1900), a work permit for a headmaster and teacher of a four-grade folk school in Kalush (1914), and documents of his children Oleksandr, Roman, Yevhen, and daughter Helena.

Among the documents of the parish archive of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the "Book of Stories" is of interest. It contains the names of young people who decided to unite their lives in Christian marriage. The "List of the Parishioners of the Church of Banya" (60s of the nineteenth and 20-30s of the twentieth century) and documents of the colony of Novyi Kalush (20-30s of the twentieth century) contain information about the population of Kalush. Information about the appearance and maintenance of the church, its ministers, and patrons can be found in the Church Inventory of the Parish in Kalush for 1927.

Cartographic materials reflect the state of Kalush city development, ancient names of city streets and surrounding microplaces.
