The building of the Polish gymnasium, Dolyna

With the development of education in the 20th century, in 1911, at the initiative of the Regional School Union, the Polish Z. Krasinski Gymnasium was opened in Dolyna alongside the private Ukrainian gymnasium named after Markian Shashkevych.

The gymnasium is dedicated to the development of students' talents and creative abilities. The former Polish gymnasium has long been a center for young people who support the city's reputation by winning awards at district and regional competitions.

Initially, the Polish Gymnasium was a simple secondary school No. 1, the construction of which began in 1904. It was opened on September 1, 1908. Previously, there was a wooden one-story school on this site, which was later demolished.

The first principal of the newly built school was Leon Helman. Three years after the school was opened, a gymnasium was founded on the site of the school under the direction of the writer, ethnographer, and composer M. Pachowski.

The building of the gymnasium was owned by the Prosvita reading room in Dolyna. The main building housed 5 classrooms, offices, classrooms, and a place for a watchman.

Every year on September 20, a literary and artistic festival is held to mark the anniversary of the birthday of the first director of the gymnasium, Pachowski. In 1998, the gymnasium celebrated its 90th anniversary.

In 2003, by the decision of the Dolyna District Council, the school was officially reorganized into Dolyna Gymnasium No. 1. Today, the Polish gymnasium is an architectural and urban planning monument.

Currently, the premises are used by gymnasium No. 1. The building was repeatedly completed and reconstructed. Now you can see the renovated building at 3 Pachowskiego Street, which is happy to welcome guests. Along with the gymnasium, you can also see a saltworks, the Boykivshchyna Museum of Local Lore, which is the youngest museum in the Carpathian region.
