Theater Square in Chernivtsi
One of the favorite vacation spots for residents and visitors of Chernivtsi is undoubtedly Teatralna Square. The luxurious buildings erected in the last century impress with their majesty and, at the same time, elegance.
The main pearl in this ensemble is, of course, the theater. Built at the beginning of the last century by two geniuses who built the legendary theaters of Odesa and Vienna, it fascinates with the richness of its facade decor. Above its entrance is a sculptural composition representing a scene from the ancient Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex. In front of the building, an elegant sculpture of the writer Olga Kobylianska, in whose honor the theater is named, is placed on a pedestal.
A little further away from the theater is the elegant building of the former Jewish People's House, built in the eclectic style. The premises of the Romanian People's House, which was used in Soviet times as the Officers' House, is surprising in that its right side is much longer than the left - this was the authors' intention. All the grandiose buildings were erected in the 20th century. But in 2000, the Alley of Stars appeared on the square, where the names of famous cultural and artistic figures who started their career in Chernivtsi are immortalized.
