Museum of Applied Arts of the Kosiv State Institute named after V. Kassian

The museum of the institute was founded by O. Solomchenko and has a valuable collection of Hutsul tiles, metal, leather, and wood products of the 19th and 20th centuries. The history of the educational institution dates back to 1882, when the Weaving Society founded the Weaving School in Kosiv, whose premises were located on the territory of the current dormitory of the institute. From the first years of the industrial school's foundation, later the college, departments of artistic wood carving and carpentry, decorative weaving and carpet weaving, artistic embroidery, cutting and modeling were opened.

The Institute's Museum (2 Mickiewicza St.) of Decorative and Applied Arts in Kosovo was founded in 1936. The first director of the art and industrial school was O. Solomchenko. Today, it is a kind of scientific and educational center that preserves the artistic heritage of several generations of famous masters of Hutsul folk art, the best diploma works of students since the foundation of the educational institution, which make up its history, and clearly shows the direction of the art school. The museum exhibits Hutsul folk art of the 19th and 20th centuries, the works of famous contemporary craftsmen of Kosiv region. There is a valuable collection of Hutsul tiles, metal, leather and wood products.

With more than three and a half thousand exhibits, the museum is visited annually by thousands of people from Ukraine, Poland, the United States, Canada, Japan, Austria, China, Germany, France, and about 50 countries in total.

The collection of graduation theses of the school's students shows different periods of its development, the direction of the art school in the second half of the twentieth century. The museum's materials served to create more than 40 films by domestic and foreign film studios.

The museum is open by appointment, except on Saturdays and Sundays.
