Maidan Rizdva, Halych

Almost every traveler arriving in Halych visits the central square of the city, known here as Maidan Rizdva. Several noteworthy original monuments are located here. In the center of the square, you will be greeted by King Danylo on horseback. The highlight of the square is the Church of the Nativity of Christ. Pay attention to an interesting feature located on the church grounds. This is a masterfully crafted model of princely Halych. It is worth examining closely to imagine the scale of this place and how many amazing structures were concentrated in ancient times on this quite small territory.

From Maidan Rizdva begins one of the routes to the Halych (Starostynskyi) Castle, which towers over the city. It is very close to the Museum of Karaites. And a couple of hundred meters from the central square, the path will lead you to the memorial sign of navigation on the Dniester and the pedestrian metal bridge… Ultimately, Maidan Rizdva is simply a good place for meeting appointments. After all, almost all roads in Halych lead to it.

Maidan Rizdva is a historical place, but not sufficiently researched. Many scholars suggest that there was a pagan shrine here in pre-Christian times, and later the Church of the Nativity of Christ was established.

The monument to Danylo of Halych was also erected not by chance. Experts have reasons to believe that Maidan Rizdva and the neighborhoods located nearby appeared at the initiative of the prince. After all, it was during the reign of King Danylo that crafts and trade actively developed in Halych, and significant civil and church construction took place.

You can reach Maidan Rizdva in Halych from Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and other cities by traveling along the N09 route. The network of buses and minivans connects Halych with almost all neighboring settlements nearby, as well as with the regional centers of Halychyna and other large cities. You can also get here by train (to the station "Halych"). From the railway station to the city center, you need to walk (about 20 minutes). Maidan Rizdva is the main square of Halych.
