Christmas Square, Halych

Almost every traveler who arrives in Halych visits the central square of the city, which is known here as Christmas Square. There are several noteworthy original monuments here. In the middle of the square, you will be greeted by King Danylo on horseback. The square is decorated with the Church of the Nativity. Pay attention to the curiosity located on the territory of the church. This is a skillfully made model of princely Halych. It's worth a close look to imagine the scale of this place and how many amazing buildings were concentrated in ancient times on this very small territory.

One of the routes to the Galician (Starostynskyi) Castle, which towers over the city, starts from Christmas Square. From here it is very close to the Karaite Museum. A couple of hundred meters from the central square, a path leads you to a memorial sign of navigation on the Dniester and a pedestrian metal bridge... In the end, Christmas Square is just a good place to set up meetings. After all, almost all roads in Halych lead to it.

Christmas Square is a historical place, but not sufficiently researched. Many scholars suggest that in pre-Christian times there was a pagan temple here, and later the Church of the Nativity was built.

The monument to Danylo Halytskyi was also erected for a reason. Experts have reason to believe that Christmas Square and the neighborhoods surrounding it were initiated by the prince. After all, it was during the time of King Danylo that crafts and trade were actively developing in Halych, and significant civil and church construction was underway.

You can get to the Nativity Square in Halych from Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and other cities by taking the H09 highway. A network of buses and minibuses connects Halych with almost all neighboring settlements nearby, as well as with the regional centers of Galicia and other large cities. You can also get here by train (to the Halych station). From the train station, you have to walk to the city center (about 20 minutes). Christmas Square is the main square of Halych.
