Sokil tract

The Sokil tract is a botanical natural monument of national importance, the center of the Carpathian scots pine, a relict species. The name of the mountain ("Sokil"), according to some researchers, is formed semantically from the appellative of the word "Sokil" - "high steep rock; mountain". It indicates the shape of a mountain. There is also a version that explains the name of the mountain from the name of a stream that flows nearby.

The tract is known for the eponymous mining camp, which operated here in the early twentieth century and has been resumed today.

It is located to the west of the village of Hrynkova, Rozhnyativ district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The area is 29 hectares. The status was granted in 1975. It is managed by the State Enterprise "Osmolodske Forestry".

The protected area is located on the southern slopes of Mount Sokil in the Gorgany Mountains (Ukrainian Carpathians) at an altitude of 800-1100 m. The forest type is wet Carpathian forest. The soils are underdeveloped, strongly skeletal, with low fertility. The soil cover is very poor, dominated by various types of mosses. The area of the monument includes separate rocky placers located within the massif.

A rare for the Carpathians forest massif of relict Carpathian Scots pine with a composition of 9CIAl+B aged 190-200 y. The most common forest type is pure pine blueberry-green moss sub-forest; very rare pine-fir-spruce blueberry-green moss phytocoenoses are found.

In 2007, the Carpathian Trails NGO in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine installed an information and protection sign (full house).
