About

Téry Hut is the highest mountain hut in the Tatras that stays open all year. It stands at 2015 m in the Malá Studená dolina of the High Tatras, above a rock step next to the Five Spiš Tarns, ringed by sharp peaks such as Ľadový štít.

The stone hut was built on the initiative of the Hungarian physician and climber Edmund Téry and opened on 21 August 1899; the architect Gedeon Majunke adapted the design to mountain conditions. During the major rebuild of 1979–1982 part of the material was carried up by porters and the rest flown in by helicopter. Today the hut runs on solar power.

The green trail climbs here from Zamkovský Hut; beyond the hut the yellow trail crosses Priečne sedlo to Zbojnícka Hut and the green one continues over Sedielko into the Javorová dolina. These high passes fall under the TANAP seasonal trail closure from 1 November to 31 May. The hut serves hot meals. Slovak Mountain Rescue (HZS): 18 300.
