About

Green Tarn Hut, still often called Brnčalka by Slovaks, stands at 1550 m on the northern shore of Zelené pleso in the north-eastern High Tatras. The huge north face of Malý Kežmarský štít towers right above it, with Jastrabia veža next door. The hut also houses a station of the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service (HZS).

Earlier wooden shelters of the Hungarian Carpathian Society burnt down here several times, so a stone building went up in 1894–1897 and was formally opened on 27 August 1897 as Archduke Frederick's Hut. It has been open all year since 1926. Between 1950 and 1992 it was named Brnčalova chata after the climber Albert Brnčal.

The yellow trail comes up the valley of the Kežmarská Biela voda and continues to Jahňací štít, while the red Tatra Magistrála links the hut with Skalnaté pleso and Veľké Biele pleso. There is a dining room. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.
