About
Solisko Hut is the youngest high-mountain hut in the High Tatras. It stands at about 1840 m on the slope of Predné Solisko above Štrbské Pleso, a few metres from the top station of the chairlift, with wide views over Štrbské Pleso and the Liptov basin.
The first wooden hut appeared in 1944 as a shelter for skiers beside what was then the longest ski tow in Czechoslovakia; it partly opened on 6 February 1944 and was completed in 1946. In the post-war years it fell into disrepair until climbers repaired it, and a new chairlift in 1970 brought visitors back. After privatisation the building was completely rebuilt by 2003.
The hut is open all year and also has a small dormitory. From here the red trail climbs the ridge to Predné Solisko (about 1 h) and the blue one continues to the Furkotská dolina. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.
