About

Majláth Hut, or Majlátka, is a small modern mountain hut on the north-western shore of Popradské pleso in the Mengusovská dolina of the High Tatras, at about 1500 m, right next to the large Popradské Pleso hut.

It carries on the oldest story of the site: the first hut here was built in 1879 by the Hungarian Carpathian Society and named after the tourism activist Béla (Vojtech) Majláth. Later buildings burnt or decayed, and the last wooden one was pulled down after its roof collapsed in 1961 and a fire in 1964. On the initiative of the climber Pavol Lazár a new hut was designed after the 1899 building, with half-timbered walls; it was handed over on 30 December 2010 and formally opened in February 2011.

The hut is open all year, with about 15 beds in a few rooms and a buffet seating 48, plus outdoor tables in summer. The red Magistrála and the green and blue trails meet here; the blue one continues up the valley towards the Rysy junction. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.
