Practical info

  • Local name: Útulňa Ramža

About

Ramža is a small hikers' shelter in the eastern Low Tatras at about 1260 m. It stands in forest close to the main ridge, so it cannot be seen from the trail; a signpost on the red Path of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising points the way, a few hundred metres off the route.

Under the rules of the Low Tatras National Park, overnight stops on the ridge traverse are allowed only at designated places, and Ramža and its immediate surroundings are one of them. It is therefore a common stop for those walking the eastern part of the ridge between the Čertovica and Priehyba passes.

The cabin resembles a shepherds' hut: a low door, shelves for rucksacks, a stove and two tiers of bunks for about 20 people, though in bad weather it takes in as many as needed. The spring is about 300 m to the west, near the burnt remains of an older shelter, in boggy ground. No staff or food service is mentioned, so carry what you need. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.
