About

Murowaniec is a stone mountain hut on Hala Gąsienicowa in the High Tatras, at roughly 1,500 m. Owned by PTTK, it offers over a hundred beds and houses a TOPR mountain rescue duty room; since 2019 the building has been a listed monument of the Lesser Poland region.

It was built in 1921–1925 on the initiative of the Warsaw branch of the Polish Tatra Society, with Polish Army units doing the construction work, and was formally opened on 12 July 1925. After a fire in 1963 it was rebuilt the following year.

A major junction of marked trails lies at the door: the blue trail from Kuźnice continuing to Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy and Zawrat, the yellow one from Kasprowy Wierch on to Krzyżne pass, the black one to Brzeziny and the green one via Rusinowa Polana. It is the classic base for Orla Perć, the hardest trail in the Tatras. There is a buffet. Mountain rescue: 985 or +48 601 100 300.
