About
Kamenná Hut under Chopok, known colloquially as Kamienka, sits just below the summit of Chopok on the main ridge of the Low Tatras, at roughly 2000 m. It is the third-highest mountain hut in Slovakia after the huts under Rysy and Téry Hut, and it is open all year.
The stone building originally housed the workers who built the cable car to Chopok. It has operated as a hikers' hut since 1996; a wooden terrace was added in 2003 and a reconstruction begun in 2006 created an attic floor. Today it offers a shared dormitory for 25 people.
The top cable-car station is only a few dozen metres away, and the red Path of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising, Slovakia's longest trail, runs past the hut. It is a base for climbs to Ďumbier and Dereše and is popular with ski tourers in winter. Weather on the ridge changes fast, so bring warm clothing even in summer. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.

a short walk from the top station of the Chopok cable car (from Jasná or Tále); on foot by the yellow trail from Tále via Trangoška, or the red Path of the Heroes of the SNP along the ridge from Ďumbier or Dereše.
