About
The Five Polish Ponds Hut is the highest mountain hut in Poland, standing at 1,671 m on the shore of Przedni Staw in the High Tatras. Run by PTTK and named after Leopold Świerz, it is open all year, has 67 beds and a TOPR rescue post next door.
The present stone building is the fifth hut in the valley. The first, a bare stone shelter, was put up in 1876; the predecessor of today's hut burned down in May 1945. The new one was built in the early 1950s on a different site and is regarded as one of the finest pieces of hut architecture in Poland. Its electricity comes from a small hydro plant fed by Wielki Staw.
The green trail climbs here through Dolina Roztoki from Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza (with a black short-cut), and the blue trail comes from Morskie Oko over Świstowa Czuba and continues to Zawrat pass. The kitchen is famous for its apple pie. Mountain rescue: 985 or +48 601 100 300.
