Browar Wisła: craft brewpub in Wisła's old railway station

ul. 1 Maja 69, 43-460 Wisła, Poland

Browar Wisła is a brewpub in the heart of the Silesian Beskids, in the spa town of Wisła, where Poland's longest river of the same name rises. It occupies the restored building of Wisła Uzdrowisko railway station in the town centre: the old brick station with its red roof has gained a modern glass extension that looks out over the tracks and the mountains. The brewery opened in 2020, when the first six beers went on tap.

The brewhouse stands in the main hall right behind glass, so while drinking a coffee or a beer you can often watch the brewers at work. The cellar holds about 12,000 litres of beer. All beer here is unfiltered and unpasteurised and poured straight from the tanks. Most of the names refer to Wisła's valleys and localities: Głębce, Jawornik, Nowa Osada, Kopydło. The kitchen follows slow-food principles using regional produce; the brewery has its own smokehouse and makes its own pickles and preserves.

Why go

  • Taste beer from the tank where it is brewed and see the brewhouse.
  • The “próbnik smakosza” tasting flight: four 0.25 l glasses of your choice, the best way to compare the lagers, ales and stout.
  • Try piwowica (German Bierbrand), a spirit of 40 or 50% distilled from beer and rare in Poland; the process is close to whisky, and the taste and aroma are malty. According to the brewery, only a few places in Poland have the equipment to make it.
  • Take beer away: 0.75 l bottles filled from the tap (best drunk within a week) or gift six-packs of 0.5 l bottles.

What to taste and buy

  • Wiślanin Jasne, a classic pilsner with Czech hops (≈4.9%), and Wiślanin Ciemne, a dark lager (≈4.9%).
  • Głębce, a Märzen (≈5.5%), malty and full-bodied.
  • Biała Wisełka, a wheat beer with banana and clove notes (≈4.6%).
  • Czarne, an oatmeal stout with coffee tones (≈5%).
  • Nowa Osada (APA), Jawornik (a red ale with caramel notes), Kopydło (American IPA, ≈7%) and Malinka, an ale with raspberries added during brewing.

To go with the beer there are snacks from the smokehouse and pickles. If it is your first visit, start with the tasting flight and then order a full glass of your favourite; lovers of stronger beer should leave Kopydło for last.
