District Financial Directorate, Ivano-Frankivsk

Hrushevskoho Street in Ivano-Frankivsk is home to several interesting historical buildings: the Austro-Hungarian Bank building and the insurance company building. Among them, the building of the district financial directorate stands out.

However, the district financial directorate in Ivano-Frankivsk did not immediately settle in this building, which is decorated with rich stucco moldings. From 1896, the financial department rented the premises from the businessman Immerdauer (now the building houses school No. 5). However, in October 1909, the Ministry of Finance of the Austro-Hungarian Empire acquired a land plot for construction on Hrushevskoho Street.

The project of the future district financial directorate was designed by Lviv architect Franciszek Skowron. He was a military man, which left an imprint on his work. His most notable work is the building at the beginning of Knyazya Romana Street in Lviv (now one of the buildings of Lviv Polytechnic University). The Ministry of Finance of the Austro-Hungarian Empire allowed Skovron to choose a construction company. Construction began in 1911, and a year later the new neo-Baroque district financial directorate appeared on the street.

Surprisingly, after two world wars, the building of the financial directorate remained in excellent condition. When Stanislaviv (Ivano-Frankivsk) became part of the Polish Republic, the local authorities removed the Austrian eagle from the building's facade. However, the First and Second Financial Departments continued to work in this building, but they were already Polish institutions.

After the Second World War, the city council, the executive committee, and the city committee of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian SSR were located in the building of the district financial directorate. Since 1989, the building has housed the Pasternak Ukrainian Research Institute of Mountain Forestry.

The District Financial Directorate is located at 31 Hrushevskoho Street. From here it is a short walk to Rynok Square in Ivano-Frankivsk.
