About
Plesnivec Hut is the only hikers' hut in the Belianske Tatras. It stands at 1290 m at the head of the Dolina siedmich prameňov (Valley of Seven Springs), below the south-eastern slope of Bujačí vrch, close to the valleys of Zelené pleso and the Kežmarská Biela voda. Its name means «edelweiss», as its builder called it.
In 1932 Tibor Gresch of the Carpathian Society put up a small Edelweisshütte on the site of an old shepherds' hut and greatly enlarged it in 1936–1938, doing most of the work himself. After the war Gresch was forced to emigrate and the hut was nationalised; from 1954 it served as a TANAP research station, where weather records were kept among other things. From 1993 the climber Ján Matava restored the building, and since 1997 it has again been open to hikers.
The hut has 20 beds in six rooms, a kitchen and a dining room. Most of the Belianske Tatras are closed to hikers, so visitors come along the trails from Tatranská Kotlina and Veľké Biele pleso. Mountain rescue (HZS): 18 300.
